I’m a member of Stockholm Chamber Brass and WorldBrass. I also perform as a soloist and have won prizes at international competitions.
As a student I travelled Europe in search of the best teachers and this knowledge has greatly influenced my own approach to teaching. Firstly I look to know what drives a student to want to improve and then help them achieve this by enhancing their base technique and searching out their own musicality. I’m not only interested in hearing from trumpeters but also any brass groups that are looking to further their development. Since 2021 I am the trumpet teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.
Over the past couple of years I have received several individual lessons with Tom. I have always looked up to Tom as a player and performer so I enquired about getting some lessons. I have to say his teaching methods worked extremely well for me - from fundamentals to standard trumpet repertoire and new contemporary music. He makes it very easy to understand what he is explaining and I reacted very quickly to what he was asking of me. I also like the fact that he plays in the lessons - for me this a fantastic way to learn and hear a good sound to emulate. He also has a very educated way of looking at music and interpreting it, he has so many ideas but what I enjoyed the most is the fact the he encourages you to find own musical idea/interpretation. There was also certain aspects of my playing that I wanted to improve upon. Tom was able to help me in these areas in many different ways i.e away from the trumpet, mental practice etc. I would highly recommend Tom for a lesson!
I had like five masterclass lessons with Tom in two year's and I really liked them. Why? Well first off all I really like the way he explain things. The explanation is very clear and in DETAILS so you can easily fallow and understand what he is trying to say about certain subject or problems or other stuff. Second I like that he gives you ideas or tips in order to help you improve. Like I'm still using some breathing and playing on stage tips he gave me even today. When I take some new music to play I learn it differently now and i think and play music in a new way ( interpretation ). My point of view is different there. Third thing is that he has a lot experience in playing solo and chamber music so speaking about interpretation he can talk about music approach from both these angles and I think that's great. So I think lessons with Tom were very useful for me and I hope the last one was not the last.
