Rafael Videira

I'm a violist with a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in viola performance and Violin/Viola pedagogy. I have a great passion for teaching!

My name is Rafael Videira and I hold a Doctoral degree (DMA) in viola performance with emphasis in violin & viola pedagogy from the University of Oregon and a Masters degree in performance from the University of New Mexico, where I completed a Long Term Training course in the Suzuki Violin method with Prof. Susan Kempter.

My teaching and performance have been strongly influenced by my pedagogy mentors, as well as my main instrument teachers: Kim Fredenburgh, Dr. Leslie Straka, and Fritz Gearhart. I have also played in many master classes taught by Ori Kam, Richard Young, Wilfrid Strehle, Naomi Seiler, Soon-Mi Chung, Peter Borck, Maxine Neuman, and John Graham.

As a freelance performer, I have played in the Corvallis Symphony and Oregon Mozart Players (Oregon), Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica de São Paulo and Orquestra Sinfônica de Santos (Brazil), as well as many chamber music and solo recitals in Brazil, Mexico, and the USA. During the Summers of 2016 and 2017, I was an international audition winner to be part of an orchestra performing Cantatas by J. S. Bach with maestro Helmuth Rilling, in the cities of Weimar, Erfurt, Leipzig, and Eisenach, in Germany.

We love having you as our teacher ... I appreciate the calm you add and your knowledge of teaching children (and novice adults like me), not just your musical ability.

It's wonderful to have an instructor who cares so much about his students, his art and the art of teaching. Thanks for everything.
