I am a pro viola player, with over 30 years' experience playing in orchestras, chamber music and as a soloist. I graduated in viola in Italy.

Violin and viola coach
I help violin and viola players to play more easily, learn pieces in a shorter time, play by heart and not forget it, play by ear, free from all aches & pains, injuries like tendonitis, as well as stage fright, without having to take medicines, drugs, without having to depend on physiotherapy or other treatments or even undergo surgery, so that they can do their job and fully express themselves through music.

Beginners can produce from the very first lesson a lovely tone.

Since 2003 Monica has been living in Oxford, UK, where she has collaborated with various orchestras, as a soloist and in chamber music, performing, among other things, several times the Brandenburg Concerto n.6 for two solo violas by J. Bach, the concertos for viola and orchestra by Telemann and Stamitz, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra, as well as piano recitals with a program of Italian music for viola and piano and the rare Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra by Bruch.
She has also dedicated herself to teaching the Havas New Approach, running various workshops in Oxford and in Italy organized by Cultural Associations and Conservatoire (Luigi Canepa of Sassari, Licinio Refice of Frosinone, Dante Alighieri Music High School in Florence) and at the International Viola Congress held in Cremona in October 2016. She arranged for Oxford University Music Library to create an archive with Kató Havas’s documents. Monica created a website on the viola, www.viola-in-music.com.

Before moving to Oxford, in addition to carrying out an intense chamber music activity with a baroque instruments ensemble, Monica acquired various experiences in both the opera and symphonic repertoire by collaborating, among others, with the following orchestras, since 1987 with various contracts:

- 1997/2000: Orchestra Stabile di Como, symphonic and opera seasons

And if you are lucky enough to already be free from aches & pain and stage fright, we can focus on developing your repertoire, getting ready for a concert, exam, audition, whatever you wish.

I myself used to be so nervous that at exams and auditions I would not perform as well as I could. I would not dare to stand up and play just for fun for some friends or as a soloist. Now, since I have found the solution, I've been able to play in all situations: solo, recitals with piano, concertos as a soloist with orchestras and I really enjoy it.

I teach violin and viola. I have a long experience as a teacher, specialised in the prevention and release of physical and emotional tension related to performance that create a lot of problems and difficulty. My teaching is based on Havas New Approach that helped me and countless players around the world over more than fifty years overcome blockages and play more easily and frely.
I translated three books by Kato Havas on this subject.

The method I teach enables the students of any level to learn and progress more quickly, improve their tone and play with more ease; beginners can produce from the very first lesson a lovely tone.

So if you are here it's because you suffer from pain or even tendonitis and/or stage fright related to playing your violin or viola.

Now I guess you probably have already tried to find a solution to these problems. Maybe you have tried one or more remedies and have been disappointed because that didn't work, really, or the relief was only temporary.

So, If you failed in the past at eliminating pain, tendonitis and stage fright related to your playing, well, it's not your fault because there is a lot of information that can be very confusing or even misleading and those cures that are offered may have a positive effect but this is only temporary or limited because they generally tend to only treat the symptom (that is, the pain). The pain is the effect.

They address the effect, they do not address the real cause of the pain and nerves or are not specific for musicians, especially violin and viola players. So, it is necessary a new way of thinking and a new way of dealing with these issues, a new way of playing that eliminates the source of the problems.

Please do get in touch for a talk about your aspirations.

Reviews

Alison, Oxford, UK March

I had learned to play the viola as a child but my playing had lapsed for many years – I was interested in reviving my skills but using a method based on a relaxed, natural technique and enjoyment of playing without the strain and tension that so often develops when one is anxious to play well. Having Monica as a teacher over the past four years, and following the Kato Havas method, I have really enjoyed developing my viola skills again. I have felt encouraged to take several music exams, and also joined a concert orchestra which has taken my music playing in a different direction. I feel that Monica has shaped her teaching to my needs and interests, and has also greatly enlarged my knowledge of the viola as an instrument and of the various musicians and players who have composed for and played the viola.
