I’m a lifelong teacher and freelance cellist with 40 years of professional experience and a doctorate in music.

There is no one-size-fits-all in music education: every student has different needs. I work with you at whatever point you are at; beginners through advanced students are all welcome. My expectation is only that you desire to learn. Not everyone wants to be a professional player, but we can all enjoy having music as an important part of our lives.

(Please note that I do not teach children under 10 years of age; there are other teachers who are more experienced in working with younger kids.)

I use the Suzuki book series for their inexpensive repertoire but I do not teach using the Suzuki method nor do I teach rote playing. I supplement these books with technique materials from Rick Mooney and studies by cellist-composers of the past. I love teaching the Bach cello suites, but let’s develop your technique to where you’re ready to play them before tackling that wonderful challenge.
