I'm a freelance flutist based in Switzerland with over 14 years of teaching experience. I'd love to help you find your voice with the flute.
I believe one of the functions of music is to communicate and to connect with yourself and others. By listening carefully and crafting a skill with your hands, music allows you to be more aware of your surroundings and opens your mind to new forms of expression. It helps develop analytical thinking having a lasting impact on many aspects of your daily life.
My main goal is to help you find your own unique sound on the flute. With enjoyment in mind, I use different techniques to create awareness providing you with tools to overcome different challenges. I teach you how to listen to yourself and discover diverse ways to improve your flute playing.
Praised by her refined musicality and deep expression, flutist Ana Laura Dominguez has developed her style embracing diverse musical landscapes from the classical music repertoire to Latin-American rhythms. Her focus lays on the search for depth of expression through the rich tones of the Alto flute, C flute and piccolo. A versatile musician, her driven nature has taken her to perform on stages in Buenos Aires, Zurich, Boston and New York. She has recently taken part on the recording of an album dedicated to the music of Mozart for soloists and orchestra in Vienna for Universal Music Group.
Passionate about music, Ana Laura performs on chamber music and orchestral projects on a regular basis. During her two year stay in Boston, she took part in projects with the Boston Philharmonic, Boston Chamber Symphony, Cape Code Chamber Orchestra, and Boston Civic Symphony, performing in venues such as the beautiful Jordan Hall in Boston and previously in the famous Isaac Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall, New York. She also engages in fusion projects, such as her collaboration on the recording of a music album of Latin-American roots in Brooklyn, New York.
Classically trained, Ana Laura graduated from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) in Switzerland, obtaining two Masters degrees in Flute Performance and Flute Pedagogy under the guidance of Swiss flutist Philippe Racine. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, where she studied in the studio of Lars Nilsson and Beatriz Plana. To complete her education, she has spent summers at the Internationale Sommerakademie Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria) with Peter-Lukas Graf; at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA) with renowned American flutists such as Alberto Almarza and has received lessons from Boston’s most prominent musicians.
Ana Laura has offered workshops on flute performance for undergraduate students in Argentina at Universidad de Villa Maria, Córdoba, and Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in Mendoza. She has also been actively involved as a flute teacher in Argentina’s program for youth orchestras, inspired in “El Sistema” from Venezuela, aimed at the inclusion of the younger generations through music.
Currently back in Zurich, Ana Laura enjoys a versatile career as a concert flutist, chamber musician and teaches at her private flute studio. She enjoys spending time with her family and going for a swim in the city’s lake on warm summer days.
Anna is an excellent teacher. She takes the time to know her student to develop a curriculum or focus that matches their interest and needs. Taught me valuable tricks that helped me and changed my perspective on certain aspects of the flute. She is very talented, and during the lesson stays very engaged and sharply focused. I’m excited to keep learning from her.
Ana is the best teacher I could`ve found. Very professional and extremely supportive. She figured out the main points and helps where help is needed. She accepts all styles and approaches and helps the student to reach their individual goals. There is always fun and laughter as well combined with loads of experience. Thanks so much!
For my daughter (8), the flute is the first instrument she enjoys. This is mainly due to Ana's lessons, who are very sensitive, personal and use exciting methods to approach children (who don't necessarily feel like playing on their own). My daughter only started playing the flute in the summer and didn't know any music before, but now she's already playing little songs and always looks forward to lessons. Big recommendation!
I am a college student and was looking for a teacher who could push me to my limits as an advanced player. Ana Laura is very thoughtful, kind and genuinely cares about my learning. I have grown so much since taking lessons with her. She has a unique style and designs the lessons to fit my ambitions. I highly recommend her.
I had a 30-minute lesson with Ana Laura and learned so much. She was able to assess my tone and positioning...and provided tips for practice and improvement. Thank you, Ana!!
