Mark David is Artistic Director and Head of Brass at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Mark David is Artistic Director and Head of Brass at the Royal Academy of Music in London and Principal Trumpet in The Academy of St Martin in the Fields. From 1990-2012 he was Principal trumpet in the Philharmonia Orchestra. He appeared as a concerto soloist at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia and Vladimir Ashkenazy and performed Bach's 2nd Brandenburg Concerto directed by András Schiff. In 2017 he toured the USA as a soloist with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Mark describes his teaching philosophy as ‘guided self-discovery’, tailoring his teaching to the needs of each individual student. He draws on techniques and inspiration from a wide range of other disciplines such as skiing, swimming and golf to name a few. The brass department at the Academy is widely recognised as one of the foremost in the world and alumni occupy positions in orchestras worldwide.
Mark is passionate, (some might say driven!) in his enthusiasm to enable brass players to explore the limits of their potential.
A keen endurance athlete, Mark has completed the Marathon Des Sables, several Ironman triathlons, and multiple ultra distance runs up to 60 miles. He is also a qualified Personal Trainer, Ski Instructor and Mountain Bike Leader.
