Hong Kong Philharmonic Associate Principal Flute / Teaching at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Hong Kong Baptist University
Hi, I'm Olivier Nowak, Associate Principal flute of the Hong Kong Philharmonic since 2008.
A Frenchman in the nowadays world's most cosmopolite city!
This last line can define me quite well actually : impregnated by the french school of flute from my childhood till my 1er Prix of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris but also attracted by various aesthetics. A natural curiosity that probably lead me from a life of freelancer in the greatest parisian orchestras (Opéra de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de RadioFrance etc....) to a position in the most prominent orchestra in Asia.
I also have the chance to teach among the most promising young flute players of Hong Kong in the frame of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts or the Hong Kong Baptist University. This challenge to winkle out the best of myself in order to get the best of my students is a thrill I’d love to share with you now also through Play with a pro!
I am Jennifer Tse who has studied with Olivier for two years during my music studies at HK Baptist University. I then was admitted to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in UK for a master degree. Olivier is a very inspiring and encouraging teacher who has taught me a lot on various musical techniques and styles. He is a responsible teacher, and a passionate and enthusiastic musician. I am glad that I have studied with Olivier who helped me explore and develop my possibilities on flute playing.
I am one of the flute students at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and have been studying with Olivier for 6 years, during which time I have been appointed as principal flautist in the Asian Youth Orchestra (2011). In the same year, I was awarded second runner-up in the 23rd Gisborne International Music Competition. Olivier Nowak, who is a remarkable musician as well as an enthusiastic player, undoubtedly has a very good sense of music. He is a responsible teacher who gives regular classes, clearly demonstrates musical examples and clarifies every detail.
My name is Angus Lee, I'm a flautist and I studied with Olivier for four years at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 2010 to 2014, during which time I have made appearance at the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival , where I have been soloist for both Boulez's 90-birthday celebration and Memorial Concert. Olivier is a teacher who inspires artistry in students, whose well rounded understanding of music from all periods promises to thoroughly equip students in their capacities as soloists, chamber as well as orchestral musician, endowing them a competitive edge in a profession that is becoming increasingly challenging.
