Myles Sloniker

I'm a professional jazz bassist, composer, and bandleader living in New York City.

I split my time between playing in some of NYC's top venues and touring internationally.
I pride myself on being at home with many different musical styles and settings, and am especially interested in folk music from around the world.
I went to the New School in Manhattan and was fortunate to study with Ron Carter, Ben Street, Matt Brewer, and Johannes Weidenmueller, among others. Before that, I studied classical technique at the University of Northern Colorado.
My belief is that learning should be tailored to the needs of the student as an individual. I help my students to analyze and understand their unique strengths, learning styles, and needs, and to create their own exercises and projects to help them improve. This highly personal approach is what I feel sets me apart as a teacher, and I've found it also helps my students to remain inspired to continue on their path of musical discovery.
