I'm the Principal Flute of the English Chamber Orchestra, and guest principal with UK's major orchestras, with a wealth of teaching experience.
My love of orchestral flute playing has lead me to play guest principal flute with some of the world's greatest orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, London Symphony, naming but a few. The flexibility needed to play in a wide array of orchestras is key to what I enjoy teaching to my students, and the keen ears and musical sensibitlites required are something I think all musicians, whatever their background, their standard or their goals, benefit enormously from learning.
Lessons are tailored to the needs of students, and we work together to build confidence, fluency and musicality by building a solid foundation of fundamental technique, as well as developing students' understanding of the music by growing and strengthening their harmonic and analytical vocabulary.
The key to beautiful, exciting and musical flute playing is in simplicity - turning the human breath into sound with the ease of singing.
Harry Winstanely is simply astonishing. He teaches with deep understanding of the music and demonstrates with a prominently high level flute playing. From the very first until the very last second he uses the time with maximal efficiency in order to help me. He has a vast knowledge of orchestral repertoire. I can not immagine a better teacher.
