Guido Segers
was born in Bree in northeastern Belgium. He studied the trumpet at the conservatoires in Brussels and Liege and afterwards with Pierre Thibaud in Paris. He also attended master courses with Maurice André and Roger Delmotte. During his studies he already won a number of prizes, including the first prize in the trumpet, transposition and chamber music category at the Royal Music Conservatoire in Brussels, as well as the first prize in “Solfège” and further awards in the “Pro civitate“and “Tenuto” competitions. His success in the “Tenuto” contest was followed by a live recording of the Descenclos Trumpet Concerto. From 1981 to 1985 Guido Segers was a member of the European Youth Orchestra, with which he appeared in many of Europe’s centres of music. In 1985 he became the leading trumpet player of the Belgian National Orchestra and at the same time Docent of trumpet studies at the Brussels Music Conservatoire; from 1989 to 1994 he also taught at the Music Conservatoire at Maastricht. Since 1994 he has been the leading trumpet player of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and from 2012 in addition to that a Professor of Trumpet at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy High School of Music in Leipzig.
