Principal oboist of the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, he has held the same position in the La Scala Theatre Orchestra and in the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra from 1995 to 2008.
Francesco Di Rosa was born in the Italian town of Montegranaro in 1967, he was very young when he started to study the piano and then he moved on to the oboe at the age of eleven.
He studied with Fabio Fabrizzioli and graduated with Luciano Franca in 1986, with top marks and honour, at the "G. Rossini" Conservatory in Fermo.
He continued his musical studies with Maurice Bourgue at the " Music School of Saluzzo".
Among the recognitions he has obtained, the most remarkable are the Second Price in the Jugendmusik Wettbewerb "European Price 1988" for oboe in Zurig and six other Prices in Chamber Music concourses, in duo with the piano.
As principal oboist, he won various concourses and auditions in the main Italian orchestras, in particular, in 1995 he won the International concourse of Principal Oboist in the La Scala Theatre Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti.
He has worked, and continues to do so every day, with the greatest contemporary conductors, such as Daniel Barenboim, Antonio Pappano, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Carlo Maria Giulini, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Valery Gergiev, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Lorin Maazel, George Pretre, Myung Wun Chung, Zubin Metha.
Alongside of the activity as Principal Oboist, Francesco Di Rosa is developing a soaring soloist career, as well as a chamber one, that sees him active in many ensembles: "I Solisti della Scala", the "Trio d’Ance Italiano", the "Nuovo Quintetto Italiano", the duo with the pianist Nazzareno Carusi and "I Virtuosi della Scala", of which he is a founding member.
He has performed many concerts all over the world in prestigious venues, including the La Scala Theatre of Milan, the Musikhalle of Hamburg, the Musikverein of Vienna, the Carnegie Hall of New York, the Tonhalle of Zurig, the Neiu Auditorium of Chicago, the Zipper Hall of Los Angeles, the Arcimboldi Theatre of Milan, the Teatro Roldan of L’Havana, the Teatro Coliseo of Buenos Aires and the Bunka Kaikan Theatre of Tokyo.
He has recorded various CDs and DVDs for various record labels: Musicom, Emi, Thymallus, Bongiovani, Preiser Records, Real Sound, Tactus, Dad Records, Aulia.
He has taught at the Conservatories "G. Frescobaldi" of Ferrara and "San Pietro a Majella" of Naples, at the Musical School of Milan and at the Music Academy of the La Scala Theatre.
He has held Master Classes in the USA, in Japan at the "Toho Graduated School of Tokyo", Toyama, Nagoya e Matzumoto, in Spain at the Music Conservatory of Valencia and Gandia, in Germany at the State University of Music and Performing Arts of Stuttgart, in Italy at the Music Conservatories of Adria, Bari, Castelfranco, Cesena, Foggia, Milano, Novara, Pescara, Parma and Rodi Garganico.
In june 2004, at the Campidoglio Palace in Rome, he was awarded the "Picus del Ver Sacrum" prize by the Marche Study Centre and won "Marchigiano of the Year 2004".
In november 2004 Montegranaro, his hometown, proclaimed him Honorary Citizen.
He was Vice President of the "La Scala" Philarmonic.
He is the Artistic Director of the of the "Friends of Montegranaro Music Association" since it was founded.
He plays a Buffet Green Line instrument.
