Yamaha International Performance Artist. Principal Horn, Stavanger Brass Band. Formerly Principal horn of Black Dyke & Grimethorpe Bands (UK)

Originally from North Wales, currently based in Norway working as a teacher and International Performance Artist for the Yamaha Music Corporation.

I travel the world extensively performing solo concerts, recitals, masterclasses and workshops to students and fellow professionals.

A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, I forged my career in British brass bands, playing for a combined 10yrs with some of the best brass ensembles in the world, including the Black Dyke Band and Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Currently I am solo horn with the Stavanger Band, Norway, renowned as one of the ensembles at the forefront of our movement. Alongside my horn playing I work regularly as a professional organist, pianist and conductor.

As a teacher, my aim is to give you the necessary tools to become the best version of you, as an artist. We will work together to build a solid foundation on which you can grow as a musician, and confidently express your ideas and artistry.

I work with brass musicians of all abilities and backgrounds on a daily basis, and I'm confident I can assist you in achieving your goals.

Though my main instrument is tenor horn, I am also happy to teach cornet, flugel, French horn, and piano.

There's always somewhere to work on and stretch your musicianship. Lifelong learning keeps your brain young.

Having played the Tenor Horn in high school and college, but never having had a lesson on it, I picked it up again after 47 years and joined a community band. I enjoyed that but wasn't making any progress in playing my horn any better. My children gave me lessons with Arfon via Playwithapro, and I know that after the first lesson my playing improved exponentially! I began with 10 lessons and immediately signed up for 10 more! Arfon is an extraordinary teacher. He explains things orally and visually that make it very easy to understand what he wants me to try to do! He is extremely patient, positive, helpful, approachable, and fun to learn from. I can't say enough good things about him, but every time I pick up my horn I'm grateful to him for making the experience so much more enjoyable for me (not to mention for the people listening!!)

Arfon is clearly an experienced and patient teacher. I heard definite improvement in my playing within the lesson time. Nearly didn't want to play, just listen. A sparkling hour in the midst of the COVID19 shut down.

My son has had a few lessons with Arfon and we are already seeing a huge difference. He is very calm and clear in his instructions and has a very warm and well thought out approach. We look forward to continuing to work with him. Thanks Arfon!

I have been working with Arfon for a short time and already I have made notable improvements. Arfon has clear methods to improve technique and musicality and has advised me how to practice more efficiently. I would highly recommend Arfon.
