Grammy-Award for Best Instrumental Soloist. Principal Oboe Emeritus with Chicago Symphony, 1st Prize in Geneva Competition. Recording artist.
I am teaching planned projects, such as specific repertory (major concertos, sonatas), unique works (Le Api), orchestral excerpts and also setting goals and objectives through methods such as Ferling Etudes, Barret and Pasculli. A similar "goal setting" would be studies directed towards winning orchestral auditions and solo competitions. Also, for oboists with Focal Dystonia or other physical issues I offer a gradual retraining. I use the "long-scrape" reeds but had part of my studies in the European style which no doubt assisted my success in European competitions, with the dual approach also assisting me in winning orchestral auditions in the US. In spite of this "oboe talk" (needed but somewhat off the point) I am a believer in art and its strong attachment to human civilization. In lessons and performance I seek to link our humble oboe efforts to a higher calling.
